When we bought our house six months ago we went from four bedrooms to three. We also went from a small city lot to an acre, so the downsize was definitely worth it, but we had to figure out a new configuration with our bedroom situation. Three bedrooms for four kids isn't your standard set up, but I definitely think it is doable.
In our old house our two older boys (ages eight and six) shared a room and our two little ones (ages four and three) each had their own bedroom. Before we moved we had planned to keep our older boys together and then to have our two little ones share, but on their own, our three older boys decided they all wanted to be in the same bedroom. We were thrilled that they wanted to share a room, but we knew the dynamics of three little boys and all of their clothes and toys would be...interesting. It's definitely a challenge to keep their things organized and their room clean (but, who am I kidding..it's just as hard with their sister and she has her own room).
In an act of full disclosure and vulnerability I'm going to reveal to you the "before" pictures of the boys room:
I didn't get any photos before my husband put together our new organization rack from Trinity Home Storage, but I did take them before the organization of the closet. Just picture the closet without the rack and with all of that stuff on the floor of the closet (see other closet). I'm sure he put it together before I took the photos as an act of desperation. This room obviously needed some help. (And, according to him the rack wasn't hard to put together at all.)
After the rack was put into place we went into full-on work mode. I acted as foreman instructing each of the boys what to do and we managed to get their room looking pretty nice. We've already been struggling with upkeep. (Any suggestions?)
Here are the after pictures:
Overall, I'm really happy with Trinity rack and crates. Their products are great quality with great prices and just what we needed for our bedroom organization. Trinity offers free shipping on all orders and right now they are offering readers 15% off their entire purchase through February 17, 2013 by using the promo code: CLEVER0113.

great room...our two boys share a room (2 & 4) and i have NO idea how to keep it decent..i've just decided to take all the toys out because they like to throw them around at eachother so for now it looks kind of bare but hopefully when they get a little older i'll be able to bring all the stuff back in..looove the photos of the boys playing legos...adorable...

Hi Morgan! High five to you for embarking on a journey to organization... it's tough for me, and I only have two kiddos. I know it's a daunting task, but I'm learning that it's about practice. You will get the hang of it! The thing that has worked best for us is creating a play space separately from where the kiddos sleep. Even if you don't have an extra room for this, necessarily, maybe you have an alternative space that could transform into a playspace? Or would Finley be up for sleeping in the same room as brothers for now? You might be able to convince them that would be fun, especially if you re-vamp the other bedroom into a magical play room... only toys and cozy reading corners allowed! ;) Best of luck!
ReplyDeleteOh splendid! My boys are in need of better organizing in their room. My parents have spoiled them by buying them so many toys (drives me crazy) that there is a lack of space to put them. Great job on how you do it.
