I might have already mentioned it, but this year is a significant year for us....
It's the very first year we haven't had a crying kid on Santa's lap. If I'm being completely honest, this makes me a little bit sad. Of course, I don't want my kids to ever be scared, but the crying baby on Santa's lap pictures are just so classic. And hilarious.
Our first visit with Santa was right before Thanksgiving at the downtown Christmas preview. Everyone did good and got a candy cane from Santa, but the location was dark and the picture didn't turn out.
Our second visit with Santa was last week. We headed to a little town about a half an hour away to the Avenue of Lights. It was our first time going and we didn't know what to expected. The kids were excited to see Santa, but if I would have known how cute the picture would be I would have dressed them up. Oh well, next year.
Finley asked for a candy cane, Judah asked for a Santa hat, Silas asked for a Santa hat, too, and when Samuel was asked what he wanted he said he didn't know. Finley's Christmas wish came true right away when Santa handed all four of them a candy cane. My dad came over this weekend and gave them all Santa hats, so I guess all of our Christmas gifts are taken care of, right?
How do your kids do with Santa? (And, if you want, how do you address the issue of Santa in your home? I've been mulling this over a lot lately...)

what a perfect santa photo!!!
ReplyDeleteLily has yet to sit on any kind of Santa's lap because both Will and i don't really believe in it. in our house, Santa is this mysterious person who lives in the north pole and delivers presents to all the good boys and girls on Christmas eve. Lily is all about Christmas this year. we cannot wait!!
ReplyDeletehappy holidays!!
Are you kidding me Morgan?! That is the most perfect Santa picture I've ever seen!! Happy Holidays to you and your beautiful family.
ReplyDeleteAs for Santa, my oldest is done but quite happy to still receive a gift so that her younger brother and sister still keep believing....good fun.
What a cute picture! We live in Turkey, the place where many say was St Nicholas' birth. So we approach Santa as him being a good, earthly man. But O knows that mommy and daddy are the ones bringing the gifts.
ReplyDeleteoh goodness, the first thing I noticed were four happy smiles. I am with you, the crying on santa's lap epicures are classic. My husband and I haven't really talked about "santa" and I don't know if I want to label gifts from him (and Mrs. Clause and the elves for that matter) but we do embrace the festiveness of the season.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great Santa pic, but you are right...those crying ones hold a special place in your heart haha. My LO won't arrive till Jan 2nd so there will be no Santa pictures this year.
ReplyDeleteI am mulling over Santa and his role in my home. I'm glad I have a year to think about it because I didn't start thinking about until a week ago! I don't want to hold gifts over their heads, or use them to bribe good behaviour (the elf on the shelf creeps me out). I would love to get into a tradition of donating toys (especially the used ones they don't play with any more). How does Santa roll with that?
We don't really do santa in our house...we explain to the boys (4,2, 6m) that he was a real man and a kind helper guy..watch the veggie tale movie st. nicholas and just leave it at that..they know their gifts come from us and they're fine with it...we don't shield their eyes when they see a santa but we keep them in conversation about him and who he was and how we can help others like he did..it gets a little touchy with the 4 year old because when we're around people and they ask about santa he'll blurt out the "santa's not real.." and i don't want to be the one to ruin it for another family..still working on it by saying we don't believe in him so he doesn't come to our house...anyways..that's what we do.. :) merry christmas! xo heather
ReplyDeleteCute picture. Our kids know about St. Nicholas, but we don't do Santa Claus. I've always told them that they have gifts because Daddy works really hard so we can buy things. To be honest I was afraid that if we taught them to believe in Santa, they would not believe us about Jesus. Merry Christmas to you.
ReplyDeleteExactly. That's my concern, Simocha. I read a really great article by Mark Driscoll that has me thinking a lot about this!
