I love stripes. The striped dress is such a classic, versatile piece but it still makes a statement. I really love this Madewell version or this one from J.Crew, but for now my Forever 21 knock-off will have to do. I got it over a year ago, but because it's uncomfortably short I've only worn it a few times. I really only love it over tights or under something else as a top. I might just cut off the bottom and turn it into a shirt, but I'm still deciding.

The thing that I love about dresses, especially more form-fitting ones, is that they can double as tops. Though I don't love the silhouette of this dress, I do when it's under a skirt. I paired it with a vintage skirt and another of my Fall favorites- loafers.

I can't think of a dress that doesn't look good with boots. When I asked for your suggestions one was "dress with boots" and I love this combo. I kept this outfit simple, but added the necklace. A bold, colorful necklace is the perfect way to spice up a plain outfit.

Another way to wear your dress is under jeans. This is a little more difficult because you have to avoid the scrunched up dress right at the tummy look, but it's fun to try something a little different. I also love stripes and trouser jeans together. I would totally wear this outfit as my everyday mom outfit. Minus the gold necklace. Minus the platform wedges. And, maybe minus the blingy belt.

You look fabulous in this dress! I understand the "too-short" thing though...if I'm the slightest bit uncomfortable with the length of a dress, I don't wear it often. I've seen a few people wear a dress under a skirt recently - something I had never considered, but it looks great!

I love how you showed this dress 3 different ways. I always forget that you can just tuck it into your jeans and you have a new outfit. Just discovered your blog. Love it.

Deletesoooo cute. love this idea!
ReplyDeleteLove all the looks! I could never wear it as a top, I can barely fit my jeans in the 1st place!
ReplyDeleteI like how you did the belt with the red skirt!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mel!
DeleteYou amaze me :-)
ReplyDeleteHey - I saw one of those dresses the other day and wondered if I could get away with it for a maternity top. Because it was so long (for a shirt) I thought it would cover my belly, and because it was form-fitting I thought it might not have that "maternity top" feel. Thought it might be a fashion faux pas, but you made my day with your skirt-over-dress, and trouser style!
(not that I'm unaccustomed to making fashion Faux Pas!) :-D
You're quite a woman Morgan! Our lives are so divergent yet so similar in many ways. I knew AJ would appreciate your "almost firepit". We have some of those projects at our house.
I call it "mad scientry" ;-D

The third look is my fav! Love that it is put together, yet so effortless looking...definitely what I need with two wild little boys running around ;)
ReplyDeleteHope you are well!!
I saw someone wear a striped dress like that with a Norwegian-looking winter sweater over top, and it looked really cute!
