Pinkalicious

Yesterday I second shot my very first wedding with the talented Katelyn Owens (So fun! I'll post more later!). I got home late and didn't get to see the kids before they went to bed, so I quietly tiptoed into their rooms and fixed their covers and kissed their foreheads.

This morning I woke up to a little surprise...

Pink Haired Finley

Pink Haired Finley

Pink Haired Finley

A few weeks ago we were at our favorite coffee shop, Upper Crust, and one of the girls working had pink hair. Eric said that Finley would love having pink hair and should dye hers. Of course, I said no. I did have these pink chalk crayons in my Amazon cart, but I guess it's too late for those. Eric went ahead and did it, anyway. I'm so embarrassed to take Finley out in public...what in the world will people say? Would you laugh or cry? (I cried...a lot.)

  1. I see what you're saying about people saying something but I think it's so cute!

  2. I laugh out of it being so cute! But if it were my daughter...yeah I can't lie I would probably cry a lot too! Such a dad move...ha ha ha.

  3. Oh Morgan, she is adorable but I would cry too. A lot. James would so be in the dog house if he did that lol

  4. I think it's amazing, but I would have been concerned about the safety of the dye used...dads aren't always thinking like we are!

  5. Oh my goodness! She looks adorable, but I am not sure I would have the guts to take her out in public, either. What in the world are you going to do?

  6. Is it permanent? I would kill my husband! She looks adorable of course, I mean how couldn't she but seriously I would be so pissed at my husband.

    1. It's "semi-permanent." I think that means permanent, though, although he claims it will "only stay in for 3 weeks." Only.

    2. whoa, three weeks is a long time for pink. the good news is, this is going to be a great family story that gets told and laughed about for generations. "Remember that time grand-dad dies mom's hair pink without telling anyone?" Who knows, it might even inspire your great grandchildren to be bold and confident!

  7. Maybe you could write a marriage post about finding forgiveness over this one! ;) It's a good family story at least!

  8. You know what I just thought...I think Finley feels really pretty with her pink hair. Special. So maybe it's ok to have pink hair (for right now) because she's worth a little pink to feel like that for now. Again I emphasize just for right now...ha ha.

    1. I must agree with Jenny! She probably feels so beautiful with her new pink hair-do :)

    2. She sure does love pink! He was well-meaning knowing that SHE would love the pink hair.

  9. I would probably cry then get angry at Mr. Then laugh and a bit more crying. She is adorable but why couldn't he get the wash out kind?!?!? There are some products on the market that would strip her hair of the color some but I'm not sure you would want to expose her to them! Put it in piggies, maybe a cute sun hat? It will fade I'm sure of it. Next week it will be much lighter...again she is so sweet and have your husband do the explaining to anyone that asks!!

  10. I have to admit I have dreamed of doing this to my daughter, she would be soooo happy. However, like you I worried about "the rest of the world". If the dye was washable and came out after a few washed I'd say it's ok. And in a backwards way I think it is actually sooo sweet that daddy took the time to sit with his daughter and dye her hair. I can only imagine alot of squirming and trying to get her t osit still and not trek wet dye all over the place. He put some loving care into it. It will wash out and in the mean time she is the coolest little girl I have seen! And it's reaalllllyyy tempting me.

  11. I WOULD DYE ALL HIS SOCKS, UNDERWEAR, CLOTHES,& BEARD PINK since he thinks its so great. NOT COOL. but i'm sure Finley likes it? oh my goodness. i cant believe that girl had the audacity to touch your child's head when she knew you said no. you shouldn't care what anyone thinks except Finley and Eric's though.... If he did it to make her happy and not to piss you off I guess what can you say?...oh my goodness. sweetie. I bet you did cry. alot. but no matter what she IS precious and awesome with pink green blue hair.

  12. Oh my! I think it's awfully cute... but :) I'd be really mad at my husband if he did anything like this. Our kids hair is a really sore spot of contention between us, but we always get the others go ahead first before doing anything.

I've actually got the go ahead to do a strand of purple in my little girl's hair, but after talking to our stylist I decided against it. It doesn't look like her hair was bleached first though. That's good! From what I understand the bright colors don't last as long anyway. In the mean time, don't worry about what others think, it's not any of their business anyway!

  13. Oh my gosh. I'd have a heart attack! :)

  14. PS. If I show this to Gretchen she will lose her mind. I did my hair blue/purple and she LOVES it!

  16. My four year climbed in my lap as I was reading this and now it's all I'm hearing..."I want pink hair like that princess girl!" (Finley is the princess girl because of the tiara =) It's summer so we might just give it a try - - anyhow, just try to remember it's just hair and all of us awesome moms don't sweat the small stuff, right? Great post, Morgan =)

    1. Yes, such a great reminder that it is small. Thank you, Erin! And, if your daughter had matching hair, well, I definitely think she should! Also, I love that she said the princess girl. So sweet!

  17. Oh wow! I am equally impressed and surprised. First off I don't think my husband would have ever thought to do something like that so i'm totally impressed yours did! And surprised because, well, it's very pink! But she's so adorable and can totally pull it off. She reminds me of Raspberry Tart from my strawberry shortcake dolls. :) I would have had the exact reaction you did! I know it's only hair but I have a tendancy to not mess with it! You could always put a hat on for public apperances. :)

Oh my! Finley looks rad with pink hair but I hope it doesn't stay for too long! If I ever have a daughter, I would want to do this.

  24. She looks adorable!! My other comment may have offended someone, so I deleted it. hahaha I actually was about to erase and then my one year old hit publish. Oh well, I just hope you know she looks cute and you shouldn't worry about anything, you're a great parent and it will be short lived. Does it wash out?

  25. Hahahaha! You made my day (and it was already pretty good ) Listen Morgan, if anyone gives you guff about that hair, just smile and shake your head - then tell them you're so blessed her daddy loves her that much: -)
I think the girls are right friend, after the shock wears off I believe you'll laugh for years to come. Just make sure you can laugh WITH Eric because you'll enjoy it a lot more :-D
    Love you!

  26. I love how you responded! I would probably cancel father's day. :) Only kidding! She looks adorable with pink hair and she's going to love this story when she's older. Thank goodness the waitress didn't have a green mohawk!

  27. Let children live and express themselves, I say! I would, however, have been a little peeved at hubby for not discussing it with me first... it being semi-permanent and all. Not to mention possible allergies. But it's all good. She looks fabulous!

  28. oh my goodness!!! I would be so mad at my spouse. I mean, she's crazy adorable and did what I would love to try on my little ones but wouldn't have the guts to do, but I would still be so upset. It'll grow out :) And she rocks the pink

    ReplyDelete
  29. well, she looks adorable and rocking all at the same time but yeah, i would have cried and i would have been very upset with Will. those decisions are meant to be very talked about.

  30. Oh my gosh, this is hysterical!! I'm dying! Of course, if she were my child I would probably sob at first too :) Don't blame you one bit for being upset! But it's also kind of awesome on the flip side. Either way, this story is going to be something you'll tell future generations for a long time!

  33. That is INSANELY awesome! It suits her so much more than I would have imagined (if you'd said to me 'child with pink hair')! Ah, everything in childhood passes so quickly ... this will seem like a tiny, tiny little thing in the scheme of things (though no doubt one you'll NEVER forget!)

  34. hahahhaha. LOVE IT! Best Dad ever award. and maybe worst husband? lol at least for 48 hours.

  35. She looks adorable but I'd be fuming--I wouldn't put something as nasty as hair dye on my toddler's head. What was he thinking??!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I *love* the hair. How did he do it? I just tried the same thing on my daughter's naturally blond hair. It hardly took the dye at all. He must've used bleach? What color dye did he use? What brand?

    Thanks for the inspiration!
