A few things moved into our bedroom.
Yesterday as I was standing in the kitchen of our new home, looking out the window I thought, "this is so surreal." In a few months, when the newness of our home dies down, I don't want to forget how excited and grateful I am right now to be moving into our dream home.
If you would have asked me what my dream home looked like five years ago, it definitely wouldn't have looked like this. It would have been bigger. A lot bigger. The yard would have been smaller and more manicured. Everything would have been fancy and in place and new, but now I look at our little farm house on a big piece of land and know it's the perfect home for our family.
Eric has room for all of his projects, like building with cob, raising animals, and, something we both love, gardening. I have a place to decorate and make ours, a big kitchen to cook in, and the perfect yard for photoshoots. The kids have lots of room to run and play in the dirt and water and explore.
I'm surprised how much I've enjoyed working on the house. Granted, it's mostly been Eric doing the work (with a lot of help from his mom and her friend, too) and I've been entertaining the kids, but the work I have done I've loved doing. My mom watched all four of the kids this morning and Eric and I got so much done.
Buying a fixer-upper always sounded so quaint and sweet, but really, it's a lot of work. I've been keeping the kids occupied during the day and then bringing over dinner to Eric in the evenings. After that we work on the house until bedtime. We're so excited to finally sleep over there. Hopefully in a few days!

ReplyDeleteSo excited for how happy ya'll are with your new home, even if you aren't yet sleeping there. :)
ReplyDeleteI have found it incredible to see how my dreams of a home have shifted as I moved into motherhood, and better understood my marriage. Priorities change, and sometimes simplicity reigns. I think I would love your house very much. I look forward to seeing it become your home over the next several months as you get settled in.
Really , really cute and perfect house for you guys! I love it!
