Thanks to Plum Organics for sponsoring my post about tips for baby feeding magic. What if you let baby choose what's for dinner? Check out their cute "Quest for Yum!" video and see what happens!

(Yes, instead of using a bib we do just take Finley's shirt off.)
When it comes to food for my family I have a few requirements- it must be healthy, simple and easy to make and, of course, taste good. As a mom of four I have had my fair share (or maybe way more than my fair share) of picky eating moments. Here are some tricks for picky eaters that have worked for me:
Let them feed themselves. I know, I know, it's way messier to have a baby feed themselves, but it's a lot more fun for them. Cut up pieces of food and put them on the tray or give them a bowl and spoon. I find that no matter what Finley is eating she always has more fun if she's holding a spoon or fork (even if it doesn't get used). Try to ignore the inevitable sweeping or vacuuming that will happen afterwards.
Keep offering the same foods over and over. If my kids don't like something I don't make them eat it (there's things I don't like and I would hate for someone to force me to eat them!), but I do keep putting them on their plates. Eventually, they usually end up tasting them- and liking them!
Don't worry about how much they're eating. Your baby won't starve. I know it's easy to worry about how much your child, especially your picky child, is eating, but they won't starve. They'll eat when they're hungry. Just keep offering delicious, healthy options and let them decide what and how much they eat.
Make mealtimes fun. I love dinner time when we all sit down to eat together. Even at lunch, when Eric isn't home, it's a relaxing time for the kids and I to sit down and chat. Of course, you can make it really fun and pull out the classic, "here comes the airplane...." My mom used it on my sister and I and I use it on my kids. We've cranked it up a notch in our house and made it even more fun by having a big brother do it. Finley loves to have her brothers feed her!
Don't be discouraged. Most picky eaters usually grow out of it!

Love these tips! We practice Baby Led Weaning with Lilah Belle and fully understand the "nakey table time" - we always laugh about how dating could prove tricky if we keep it up - LOL!
ReplyDeleteI totally feed Stella shirtless too. And pantless, if I can manage it. But now it's getting colder, so we're going to have to come up with an alternate plan.
ReplyDeleteShe's a big fan of plum baby food - I always stash a bunch in my bags when we fly in case she is less of a fan of airplane food (i.e. that happens every time!)
We do the no shirt thing too! :)
ReplyDeleteWe have always taken our kids' shirts of in lieu of bibs as well. :) Love her little face in the first photo!
