I'm Tired

I used to want my kids to all sleep until seven. I said that I would be happy if they could all just stay asleep until then.

These days I'll just be happy with six. Please, oh please can you children stay asleep until six in the morning? Not five-thirty and, most definitely, not five o'clock.

I'm not a morning person. I like to stay awake long after the kids are in bed. It's the only part of my day that isn't filled with chaos. It's nice to just sit and rest, watch some shows on hulu, or read a book. I don't like to wake up early, especially not when it's dark outside. It's so easy to sleep in when no light is coming through your windows.

I guess that isn't the case for my little ones. Oh, motherhood. I'm tired.

(And, today, Finley decided to sleep in until 7:30. That was after a 5:30 nursing, but I'll take what I can get.)

  1. Bless you mothers! You amaze me. The selflessness will pay off one day I just know it! I can totally relate to not being a morning person. I think a 5:30 morning would absolutely shock my system.

  3. Agreed...I have these same thoughts often.

My Connor (age 2) gets up every day between 5 and 6...I keep thinking that someday he'll sleep later, but it hasn't happened yet.

  4. I just had my first baby (about a month ago) and I can SO relate to the misery of having to get out of bed early. It's the worst. ever. I can't wait til the day she finally sleeps in!

I can relate. I have three and used to be late night nursing. Now it's up early and sadly I stay up late too. I agree it's the most peaceful time of the day.

  7. Oh my word. I hear you. (did you see the mommalogues I did on this whole topic?!?)

My kids love the game of trying to beat the sun. And they usually win. But, Jimmy and I are SO not morning people. And I LOVE staying up late and enjoying the silence.

And yet, I am just SO TIRED.

What's wrong with those kids?!? =)

  8. So with you on this one Morgan, but I can't complain because my kids have been sleeping til 7 lately. Unfortunately I stay up way too late enjoying the silence as well! I need to face reality and start getting to bed earlier - so hard for me!

  9. Man that is rough! I put up black posterboard in Sailor's room so she wouldn't wake up when light came in her room. It always is dark in her room. It has helped a lot. But it will be getting darker sooner so that will probably help.

  10. So with you on this one. I am the same way - always staying up too late to enjoy a little quiet me time and then having kiddos that seem to just get up earlier & earlier!!

  13. I am a night owl and have no kids. I fear for the day that I do, because mornings are so not my thing. hopefully you get some more rest on vacation!

  14. Totally agree! I have taught my almost 3 year old to stay in bed "til the sun comes up". We did a Sunshine craft to teach her about the sun so now she totally remembers our agreement. Some mornings she still makes her way in around 530 but then I tell her to go back until the sun comes up. :) Good luck!

This was our sunshine craft in case anyone is interested: http://everythinggoeswithpink.blogspot.com/2011/09/you-are-my-sunshine.html
