Farmageddon

(CLICK HERE to watch the trailer)

I've mentioned it before, but we get fresh, raw milk from a local farm. Our milk comes from healthy cows who roam around in fields and eat grass. I feel good about what I'm giving my family, but some people don't like that you can buy fresh milk from the farm. They don't like small farms selling organic meat and eggs or fresh, organic produce. Mainly, the people that don't like this have monetary reasons. There's a lot of money involved with subsidized farming (and, it's not for the people who run small, organic farms.)

I love that there are whole, real food advocates right here in Chico. There are screenings for Farmageddon in Washington D.C., LA, New York City, two other cities, and....CHICO! Amazing! If you have the chance to screen this movie, do it!

(If you want more raw milk info you can google it or check out this page. I'm not associated with this page or this person, it was just the first thing that came up when I searched. :)

  1. yay, a fellow raw milk drinker! i've been drinking raw milk for about seven years now. i love it and truly believe it is better (when the cows are happy, healthy, and eating their natural diet of course). its sad there is so much strife over it, definitely a hot topic that i could go into but i won't... suffice it to say i'm just glad i can get it! i'll have to watch this video...

  2. Thanks for the post! When I was living north of DC we would get raw milk from a omish farmer from PA. The cops raided the farm! Can you believe that? There are drugs dealers, abortion clinics, but we raid raw milk farmers?? (article here: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/apr/28/feds-sting-amish-farmer-selling-raw-milk-locally/?page=all) Ah man, so friends rallied on Capitol Hill - they brought a lactaiding cow & were passing around raw milk! Thanks again for bringing the attention to this issue!!! Happy raw milk drinking!!!

  3. I have never paid more attention to food until getting preg and now that baby is eating! I am debating over Organic Whole milk or Almond milk. So is Organic the same as Raw????

  4. Wow, I had no idea that kind of thing existed until now. Stings on farmers for raw milk or usda approved milk? Murdering their animals because of nonexistent diseases? Thank you for bringing this to our attention! It makes it even more imperative that we show support for our local farmers. (This is really sad because farming has been the American way since the beginning and if you can't farm here, what can you do?)

  5. wow. yep, i am not a fan of the entire system. although we haven't made a complete switch yet, we often/mostly buy organic things-and luckily we have a great organic co-op grocer on our block!

thanks for sharing this! xo loveya

  6. When I watched that it didn't seem like it should have been coming from America. Isn't this the land of the free?

  7. Morgan,
Where do you get your raw milk from? Are they selling shares so I can start buying it? I signed up with the Weston Price foundation and waiting to hear back from them if they have a raw milk connection. Thanks so much

  8. I just started following you and then stumbled upon this post. Love raw milk. Love that I can still get it reasonably easily here in GA (although it must sport a label saying it's for "pets only" and "not for human consumption"). Whatev. What's next, USDA, do you want to pre-cook my meat before I buy it, too?

  9. Yay raw milk!!!! We LOVE it. However, here in Oklahoma it is so hard to obtain it. You have to go directly to the farmer or be sneaky about it. It's really sad. The gross fried chicken place can stay open down the street but the state wont allow us to easily buy something that is extremely good for us. It's messed up.
