Something we've recently started is Saturday night homemade pizza and family movie night. To say the boys love it is putting it lightly.
Traditions are so important. Whether it's a holiday celebration or a special lunch on Saturdays, they provide something for kids (and adults) to look forward to, stability, comfort during hard times, and sweet memories in the future.
One of my goals at a mom is for my children to look back on their childhood and think about how much fun they had. I want them to remember ordinary days as something special.
What are some traditions, big or small, that you have in your family?

My (and Finley's) side had mushrooms, olives, spinach, and feta cheese and Eric's had smoked salmon. The boys have personal pizzas.

that looks delicious! and i love the idea. maybe we will start it as well. what a beautiful memory for your kids! (and you!)
ReplyDeletethat is so much fun! what kind of dough do you use? the personal pizzas for the kids is a great idea. our movie nights involve popcorn and junior mints. :)
ReplyDeletewe do a pizza night too, probably every other week or so. wether is homemade, store bought, or delivered, we ALWAYS put a picnic blanket down on the living room floor to eat and watch a movie together. somehow eating on the floor is so much different than the table, and they love it.
ReplyDeletewe used to do that with my dad on friday nights when my mom was working (waitress). we LOVED it .. it's good to see that you and your kids do too :)
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of making movie night a weekly or biweekly thing, and of eating on a blanket on the floor! Great ideas! We have movie nights, but it hasn't been anythign regular. One tradition that is standard, or was at one time and is struggling to get back there, is game night. We used to have a monthly game night with standing invitations to all our friends. Whomever could come did. And if no one could make it that we'd play a game ourselves. It's great fun and we'll get back to it, because we all love it!
ReplyDeleteI always remember family movie night on Fridays... we would go to the 7-11 (gas station) and then grab something unhealthy and rent a movie they had there. it was my favorite thing...
ReplyDeleteAbra- You should totally start it! My kids get way more excited about it than I thought they would.
ReplyDeleteJenna- I just use the pizza dough recipe from my Betty Crocker cookbook. We use whole wheat flour instead of white. It's super easy and yummy. I love junior mints with movies!!
Katie- I love the picnic blanket idea! We've done it before under our table with a blanket over- in a fort. The boys loved that, too!
Kaitlin- I love that you used to do it with your dad when your mom was working. That is so sweet!
Annie- We need to start a game night with our boys. I love it! I love games, but until recently my boys were too young to play games that were actually fun for me. :)
Rachel- I bet the 7-11 treat and movie was a huge deal when you were a kid. So fun!!
ReplyDeleteExcellent post, Mo!
ReplyDeleteReally good composition on that pic, too...
