I really love trips. I love staying somewhere new and doing something different and, most of all, I love taking a little break from all of the day to day things like laundry, and dishes, and such.
This year I'd really like to take a big vacation. I've been thinking a lot about it and can't decide what I want to do or where I want to go. We have the choice or whether it's just Eric and I, us with the boys, or all of us and extended family. Then, we have to decide where to go. Our (or, I guess I should say "my," because I don't think my husband really has a strong opinion about it) top choices are Hawaii, Mexican resort, Mexican cruise, Disneyland, San Diego (and Legoland), or Sunriver, OR.
Almost as much as I like taking actual trips I really enjoy the dreaming and planning and excitement of looking forward to it. So, if you have any suggestions about those please, by all means, let me know! ;)

Also, did you know that it's National Delurking Week? It's a time for all of you visitors of a blog to come out of the woodwork and leave a comment to let me know you're here. I'd love to know that you're reading!
In your comment I'd love to know, where do you plan to take your next vacation?

Hi, de-lurking here ....and I think we're going to the mountains in N.C. this spring for our vacation! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm no good with trip advice. I love staying home and hate going places. My favorite trips though involve all the in-laws and a rented house for the weekend. Family to me is what makes the trip great. But that is me, I am weird that way. ;)
ReplyDeleteOk, I feel cool cause I have been to each of those with my parents...no where since I've been married, not even a honeymoon. Which means since I went with my parents its actually not that cool. If those are the options I would absolutely say do the Mexican cruise. Cruises are fabulous and so easy because everything is included. Hotel/travel/food/entertainment. Plus if you take your kids the cruise people will watch and entertain them so you and hubby can still do things alone...but they'll be there for family time too! We did the Puerta Vallarta, Cabo San lucas and mazatlan cruise. It was so beautiful. Seriously do the cruise.
ReplyDeletemexico. carribean. anywhere out of the time zone. :) I'm hoping to make it to disney and italy this year (italy hopefully for the honeymoon)
ReplyDeleteMy advice is to go just the two of you. Your boys are young enough that they won't remember a vacation - or at least not much of it - so why spend the extra money. Being someone who likes to fit a lot in, I am a fan of cruises. It's neat to see a bunch of places, yet only unpack once. And at each destination, you can plan a fun excursion. But the other spots you listed sound wonderful, too.

ReplyDeletehey Miss Morgan
ReplyDeleteI would say skip the Disneyland trip. it's fun, on the expensive side, but mostly it won't be relaxing. sounds like you want to get away from craziness. Disney will always be around. I'd go for a cruise! I think it would be FUN to get the whole extended family on the same cruise. you'd definitely have babysitter to watch the kids and more than one chance to have alone time with hubby. there are plenty of kid friendly cruises too; actually Disney being one of them. when are you planning on going?
i love going on vacations. it really depends on what kind of vacay you want. a sight-seeing-lets-do-it-all kind of trip, or a relaxing and rejuvinating one. i've done both with kids. with little ones i would opt out of a cruise because the rooms are ti-ny. not fun.
ReplyDeletean all inclusive resort is one of my favs because you don't have to worry about food or drinks, and that's nice because every day we worry about money and how much will that meal cost, etc. and its relaxing laying on the beach, or by the pool for the kids, adn there's always tons to do, rent bikes, kayak, surf, volleyball. disneyland is super fun and super exhausting, but you have to go while the kids are little. we want to go back this year when elliana turns 5. hopefully.
legoland sounds fun adn i've heard good things. we also hit sea world and universal studios while we were in san diego.
and sunriver is nice too. family friendly, bikes to rent, activities, bend is close for shopping and meals, you can play in the snow in the winter, golf. oh how fun morgan. i can't wait to hear what you plan. vacations are fun!
I can totally relate to this post!! :) I'm the same and absolutely love planning the trips. I'm having a ball researching b&b's and hotels at the moment! Oh, and as you know my next trip will be to Tassie. I can't wait! :)
ReplyDeleteTrace :)
How fun, a vacation to look forward to! I personally don't have kids to travel with, but have gone on vacation with my family and my nephews... so here's my two cents :) My sister and fam (she has 3 boys too) went to an all inclusive resort in Mexico, and while they loved it they felt that they didn't get their money's worth because one of them had to stay in the room all evening once the boys were in bed. There was babysitting but they didn't trust it, understandably enough! But an all-inclusive trip (cruise or resort) would be wonderful for just you and Eric. When we booked out honeymoon we just said anywhere hot and all-inclusive! We ended up in the Dominican Republic and it was great! I know my sister's family enjoy going on trips with extended family, as they get help with the boys and get to relax more than normal. But, it doesn't lend to a very relaxing trip for the grandma's and aunties!! So it's up to how your family feels about that, I suppose :)
ReplyDeleteAre you feeling that you and Eric need some time away together, just the two of you? Or are you dreaming of sharing an adventure with your boys, away from home?
Disneyland is great and something I think every child should experience. But your boys are pretty young, it might be a richer experience if you go when they're older, and can enjoy the rides and sights. And when you guys don't have to carry or push them around! :) Hawaii is beautiful, I've never heard a complaint :) I've only been to Maui, it was wonderful and relaxing, yet you could find things to do too! A little pricier since it requires a flight and car rental though.
Good luck! And I'm sure that whatever you decide on it will be wonderful :) Have fun with the planning and anticipating!
Great post, Morgan! We're actually trying to decide the same thing because a lot of our friends (myself included...YIKES) are turning 30 this year so we're going to go on a 30th Birthday-Kidfree-Friend Trip. We are trying to figure out a relatively close place to go but on the other hand it would be awesome to go somewhere far away since the kids aren't coming. I think you should do a couples-only trip. We just got back from Bend, OR and it was great. Sunriver is awesome and so is the Inn of the 7th Mountain. But I would say go somewhere you wouldn't ordinarily want to take the kiddos...they'll love you that much more when you're back! :)
ReplyDeleteum, i will not tell scott you are going on vacation because he will be really annoyed you are not coming to cincinnati!!!;)
ReplyDeleteHey Morgan! De-lurking as well! I love reading your blog, you inspire me as a fellow momma and I am so encouraged by your posts about the love of our amazing God!
ReplyDeleteHi Morgan, My name is Elyshia and I am friends with Jessi. Have been reading your blog for a while now and thought it was time for a comment.
ReplyDeleteAs for your trip my strong suggestion would be a cruise in Hawaii!!! My husband and I went there for our honeymoon and it was totally lifechanging for us. The people down there are so sweet and with it being a cruise you don't have to pay for eating out all the time which is a hugh cost there. We did a 10 day bost cruise and were able to see 7 different islands, and the nice thing was you got to spend the day on the Island and when you were sleeping they did all the travel. Such a fun amazing time and you get to see the beauty of all the places down there and not have to choose!
Keep us posted on what you decide!
We're dreaming of San Diego. We were hoping to go sometime this year but I'm not sure that's going to happen. We'll just have to see. We usually go to Las Vegas as it's only a 6 hour drive and my in-laws live between here and there so they watch the kids.
ReplyDeleteHey Morgan! Jordan, Makena and I are heading down to Arizona where my inlaws own a place and spending a week with his family in March. And then they all head home and I am spending another 10 days with my parents and Makena. It's a great place to go if you enjoy the heat, shopping, etc. My dad will be in heaven because we are staying right on a golf course!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear what you decide on for your trip...with....or sans kiddies!
I have to vote for the Mexico trip. I've never taken one, but my extended fam does often. They say you get more for your money and you get that vacationy feeling like you see on tv and imagine in your brain when you're knee-deep in laundry, (think pink drinks with little umbrellas sitting on the beach.)
ReplyDeleteSay, I could go with you. I'll be your personal trip assistant. You could pack me in your suitcase. I'm real bendy like that. Think about it. : )

We did the same cruise as Jen R. this past October & loved it. We chose Norwegian cause it was the only cruiseline besides Disney that wouldn't charge a full price for Ava since she was under 2 (we only had to pay the taxes & port fees for her). We loved it, but the one downside is that Norwegian doesn't provide any childcare for kids under 2, so we had her with us the entire time. We definitely felt we missed out on some stuff because of that.
ReplyDeleteI'd say if you do a cruise, go without the kids to get the full benefits. Plus, you deserve some alone time after having 3 boys!
