Day 7: On Being a Hot Mama

Today was a very happy day for me! I got on the scale at the gym and was the exact same weight I was at my first midwife appointment. I was 6 weeks pregnant with Silas.

I have five more to go until my actual pre-Silas and pre-Samuel weight (so yeah, those 5 lbs came on quick) and five more after that to my pre-Judah weight. Woohoo! My pre-pregnancy weight is getting closer and closer. If I hadn't have gained 55 lbs I'm sure if would have been here much sooner. Oh well, I enjoyed being pregnant!

There are a few things I want to do to lose the rest of the weight and get more toned.

On Thanksgiving Day I'm going to run a 5K. And, I'm trying to convince my friend, Brooke, to do it with me. Before my "5k training" I'm not sure how far I'd run at one time. It was less than a mile. Ok, a lot less than a mile. Every runner I've ever seen is in great shape, so now I'm determined to be a runner. I'm excited for the 5k and I'm actually enjoying running (I guess it's jogging) for the first time in my life.

I'm going to buy a pedometer and walk 10,000 steps per day. I borrowed one from the library a couple years ago and had to stomp for it to actually count my steps. I'm hoping they've come a long way since then. I don't want it not counting my steps and I definitely don't want to be marching around in public.

I'm going to cut down on the sweets. Notice I did not say cut out, just cut down. A mocha here and a frozen yogurt there is fine, right? Right?

What are you doing to get healthy/stay healthy during the holidays?

  1. 55 pounds?
    That's pretty good :-)
I seem to eat like a horse (or maybe an elephant) when I'm pregnant, and I almost always gain 50-60 pounds.
It's heart-wrenching to step on the scale in the midwives office, but Janice was always pretty laid back, and with a home birth this last time, I rarely saw a scale amongst the other usual accompaniments of pregnancy.
I LOVED that home-birth thing! You should try it if you have another opportunity;-)
I always lose my pregnancy weight by nine months post partum simply by nursing. I'm sure the Rocky Road ice cream doesn't have anything to do with it! HA!

In the coming week I am excited to embark on a cleansing fast.
I've been waiting to do a cleanse for some years now, and this one inparticular since my husband did it last Feb.
It's always been a no-go since I'm either pregnant or nursing - don't want all those toxins released into the milk. YIKES!
So... anyway, I will wean Carolina and do this fast while I have a window of opportunity. I can't be certain how long it will last!
    ;-)

    P.S.
    Well Done!

  2. That is awesome Morgan! I try not to eat too much extra stuff at the holidays but I usually fail at that. But this year, I have to have self control. I need to loose another 10 to get down to where I need to be. I was down to pre-prego weight by the time Baby G was one but then gained 20! So this year I have to be extra careful.

  3. Morgan,

Where is the 5k you are running? I ran cross country in high school and really miss it! Are you running besides on a tread mill at the gym? I really want to get outside and run again, but you can't exactly run in the park as a woman alone! Anyway, I've been wanting to run a race as an adult but have been out of shape due to my condition and have never done it. But I want to! Let me know where the race is!

Oh ya...I'm PROUD of you too! You are looking great by the way.

  4. I'm not sure if distance running is the best option for losing weight. A while back I saw a PBS documentary where they took a bunch of average people of all weights and sizes. Now, they were training for a marathon over the course of 24 months, so it isn't exactly a 5K, but a lot of the people didn't lose much (if any) body weight. They sure were a ton healthier though.
