Today we went to Trader Joe's to get some much needed groceries. As always, Judah sits in the front of the cart, Samuel in the back, and Silas rides in the Beco.
When we got to the counter to checkout the boys started handing the worker guy our food. He asked them, "Are you guys the big brothers?" Judah said, "yes."
Worker Guy: Wow your mom has her hands full. Do you change your little sister's diaper? (Silas was wearing a grey shirt with blue, red, and white writing and red pants.)
Judah and Samuel: blank stare
WG: I'll take that as a no.
Do you at least help with your sister?
Judah: I don't got a girl.
Worker guy didn't hear him.
Silas smiles at the worker guy.
WG: What a pretty smile!
I've had that happen before with both Judah and Samuel, where a stranger calls them a girl. With Judah I would correct them, but I don't anymore. Maybe it's because I don't want them to feel bad. Maybe because it's not worth the effort. The funniest time was when we were at the pharmacy and the girl said, "Oh I saw you with your daughter (Samuel) earlier. She's so cute! How old is she?" I said, "Two." Then she said, "What's her name?" That caught me off guard and I said, "Sam." So funny! I was laughing hysterically on the inside and, as soon as I got out of the store, on the outside!
Maybe from now on I should make sure people know my boys are boys.

Awwww he is so handsome and I am cracking up at your stories. It is okay though because people seem to mine mixed up too. I have had people ask me as I am holding my little girl with a HUGE pink bow in her hair how old "he" is. LOL
ReplyDeleteMy advice to you is DON'T BLINK! I know it's hard but don't. =D
ReplyDeleteI am cracking up at that story. None of the girls were ever mistaken for a boy but Little Man was mistaken for a girl more than once. Even while wearing a blue outfit with little tools all over it. Some people just don't pay attention.
People think Phoebe is a boy every time we leave the house (no matter what color she's wearing.) I stopped correcting them long ago. But I feel bad if they say boy over and over and then ask his (her) name. Of course I see no need to correct everyone so I just hope they don't ask the name. Someone at church thought she was a boy and she had a pink dress on, I've found it doesn't matter what they are wearing people just don't think before they speak.
