Let's Go Over the Past Few Days

Christmas Preview 2006

Last Saturday Robb & Ellie had a birthday party for Jill & I. Kim, Jill, and Brandon were all in town. We had a delicious dinner, very delicious homemade chocolate cake, and lots of great presents. It's always fun to have the aunts and uncle in town, but all three of them at once was definitely a treat for Judah. While they were here Judah called both Jill and Kim, "Aunt Kim." But, today I asked him, "What's your uncle's name?" He said, "Ban-ban" (Brandon) and then, "What's your aunt's name?" He said, "Jill." So, they're even. :)

Wednesday night we went over to Peter and Brooke REGINELLI's house for dinner. They're newlyweds of only a few weeks and it was so much fun to hang out with them. Also there was Jason, Ryann, and Regan C-O-X. Judah had fun playing with Regan, minus both of their screams of, "MINE!" They also gave me flowers, cards, and a Starbucks giftcard and sang Happy Birthday. Fun! That night Samuel got a fever...yuck!

Thursday, Thanksgiving and my official birthday, was a fun day. We went to my mom's parents for an early Thanksgiving dinner (breakfast?), then went & played on the school playground with Ellie. After that we went to my dad's parents for the real dinner. We had a fun time with Grams, Bill, my mom, my sister, and my aunt and her family. Although, Judah was a little feisty and crabby. I really wanted to stay and play Cranium, but everyone left. They boys were both fussy, so we left, too.

Judah fell asleep in the car on the way home at 8. Very unlike him. We came home, gave the boys a bath, and put them to bed. A few hours later Judah woke up with a fever. We gave him some Tylenol and he went back to sleep. The next morning he woke up at 7:30, still with a fever. Eric gave him some juice and he slept until 10:30. Then he slept all of Friday. Today he's been feverish and sleeping a lot STILL. He's also had the chills where his hands and lips will turn purple/blue. This is probably the sickest Judah has ever been. It is really scary and sad for me to see my baby so sick.

He finally seems to be feeling better right now. He is reading a book with Eric and Samuel and drank a smoothie today. (All he's eaten in the past two days in chicken noodle soup, applesauce, and a lot of juice). So, we're praying for complete healing by tomorrow morning!

We have a tooth!

Tonight Samuel's very first tooth popped through the gums! It is his bottom left one. Most of me is so proud of my adorable little man. But, part of me is a little sad and nostalgic. Where in the world did the last 6.5 months go? How can this itty, bitty baby be rolling around, sitting up, and trying to crawl? Why does time just fly by? Why can't is just slow down?
I always remind myself to enjoy every second. To slow down and just enjoy my babies. I want to remember every little thing about them. I wans to remember the way Sammy smells when he gets out of the bath, the way he still (kind of) fits in my arms when I nurse him, the way he laughs and giggles everytime I (or anyone) looks at him. Oh, little man, please don't grow up too fast!

One Tired Mama

I had another scary mommy moment today. And, from what I hear, I have many more down the road. Especially with two boys.
Judah 11/15/06
Samuel 11/15/06
This morning we had an appointment to be at the pediatrician's office at 9:30. The boys were both scheduled to get a flu shot and it would be my first time taking them by myself. My plan was to have Judah eat breakfast while I got Samuel and myself ready to go. Judah didn't want to sit in his booster, so I let him sit in "mama's seat." As I was feeding Samuel, Judah fell backwards on the floor and started crying. I set Samuel down and picked up Judah. It took me a few minutes to realize his little chin was bleeding and it looked pretty bad. I stayed calm (at least calm for me) and called Eric. I put neosporin on his chin, along with a cotton ball and a bandaid. Fortunately for Judah (or maybe it's for me) we were already on our way to Dr. Stanley's. When we got there both nurses checked out his chin and finally decided to have the doctor come look. He ended up needing to glue it together. He said in the past it would have needed a stich, but fortunately they have this surgical glue type stuff. Stiches would have been painful and difficult, but the glue was super easy with no pain at all. Judah did such a good job that he got TWO stickers and two bandaids (one for the shot, one for the chin).

*I just reread that entry and it's pretty incoherent. Sorry. I'm super tired and don't feel like filling in all of the details. I've had a LONG day. Samuel napped from 11-12 and woke up just in time for lunch (ha!), then Judah napped from 1-3. Both Eric and I tried several time to get Samuel to go back down for a nap, but with no luck. He just passed out for the night at 8:30. This is after waking up several times in the night. I know I need to teach him to sleep, but I seriously HATE hearing him cry. There is nothing I hate worse than my babies crying. So, someone buy me a book- "The Baby Whisperer" or "The No Cry Sleep Solution," that's what I need...
But, I didn't manage to get some adorable pics of the boys today. And, that's all that really matters, right?

Cute picture

Another thing I forgot to tell you all- Samuel is doing the cutest thing! When he wants to be picked up he raises his arms up and reaches to us. I love it! I remember Judah doing this, too.

Another one! Yay!

Samuel is eating rice cereal now. My baby is getting SO big! He likes the cereal, but he REALLY likes to feed himself!!

I'd forgotten how much I absolutely LOVE reading. In elementary school, after my mom told me it was time to go to bed, I would grab my flashlight and hide under the covers reading The Babysitter's Club Books. Or, maybe the Secret Garden. I have always loved to read. In 2nd grade I won the award for reading the most books. The prize? A book. A chapter book. I would a;ways skip ahead in our school readers. I remember a story I particularly liked called, "Hannah is a Palindrome."

Because I love to read so much I often stay up all night reading to finish a book in one night. So many books are so expensive and I don't want to spend $20 on something I finish in a day. So, the books I read are few and far between. A few weeks ago Eric and I went to Family Christian Store and I found a few books that peaked my interest, but instead of paying almost $40 for the two of them I went home and ordered them (one for only 2cents..yes, you read that right) on amazon.com. Yesterday my books came in. What a glorious day! I told Eric I wanted to stay up all night reading, but he made me come to bed. :(

Now I remember why I love reading and why I do it so often. With two kids to take care of, I can't just read, read, read anymore. I am particularly picky about what I read, but so far my first book (Atonement Child by Francine Rivers) is very good!

We've had a rough day. We had lunch with Grandma Donna, Grandma Nancy, and Bill. Everywhere was crazy busy, so we got home late. Judah didn't go down for a nap until about 3 and never fell asleep. A sleepy boy = a very unhappy boy. He cried hysterically the whole time I was at the gym and after I got home until he fell asleep in the car on the way to Trader Joe's.

Well, that was yesterday. I stopped blogging because all the talking about reading made me want to read. So, that's what I did. Today we went to Elliana's birthday party, then we went over and hung out with Katie and (Big) Sam. Judah has a friend his age named Sam, who Judah always refers to as "Big Sam." Cute!!

At the birthday party Elliana announced that she's GOING TO BE A BIG SISTER!!! How exciting! Congrats to Jenna and Justin, too! Next summer will be the summer of the babies. All the pregnancies make me, just a little bit, want to have another baby. But, don't worry, we're waiting a long while!

You should be ashamed of yourself!

Well, results are in for most (all?) of the election. I must say that I am disappointed and frustrated. Yes, at the results, but moreso for the apathy in Americans/Christians. There we so many HUGE things on the ballots this year. Proposition 85, if passed would have required a waiting period and parental notification for minors seeking abortions. Prop 85 was defeated with 52.1% of votes. The difference between losing and winning a seat on the Chico City Council was 40 VOTES! People think that it's not important/forget to vote/aren't informed when there isn't a presidential election going on. Some of these things are just as important, or even more important, then your presidential vote. Christians, you HAVE a voice, use it!

Just like in the parable of the talents, when we are given something and it's not used, it's taken from us.
"Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents. For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkenss. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." Matthew 25:28-30

Did you vote?

November Update

Sorry for the lack of blogging. I've switched my blog over to blogger beta and haven't had much time to figure it all out.

Samuel Christian had his 6 month well-baby check up on the 31st. I seriously cannot believe that he was 6 months on the 30th. 6 months!!! Wow, times definitely goes by SO FAST! He was (if I remember correctly, I'll have to look up the info later) 20lbs, 6 oz (90th percentile) and 24 1/4 inches long (off the charts!). He's such a big, healthy boy. Everyone always comments on how he is such a happy, smiley baby.
Brothers on a bike
Judah is still continuing to talk more and more. One of my favorites words he says is mullet. His hair gets kind of shaggy in the back and so I tell him he has a mullet. During baths when I want to wash his hair, I"ll say, "Ok, let's wash your mullet." And, he'll answer, "No soap in mul-mut." He is always saying hilarious things and keeps us laughing all the time.

Yesterday our good friends, Brooke and Peter got married. Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Reginelli!!! They had such a beautiful, amamzing wedding. Brooke was a stunning bride and, because their first kiss was during the ceremony, Peter was a very excited groom. So excited that their first kiss was a good 30 seconds.
Brooke & Peter leave the reception
I had the privilege of mcing the reception, which was a lot of fun! So, if anyone of you need an mc I'm officially for hire. :)
