4 Month Appointment

Samuel is 16lbs, 14oz (97%) and 27 inches (96%). Everyone loves to concentrate on his weight, but he's a LONG little boy, too! Very proportional, little man. He'll be towering over us (and you, too)!

Thanks for coming to the appointment with us Laura! We love you so much!!!

**I've been really tired lately and haven't felt like blogging. But, don't you worry- after my 3 hour nap today I'm slowly coming out of my slump.

Sorry I haven't been updating much lately. I seriously don't have much to say. We really have been doing anything special. Before we moved I tried to go out and do something everyday. Now that we're in our new apartment it's nice just staying here. We're not tired of it yet and because it's so much bigger there's more to do. Judah LOVES his sandbox and wants to go outside "saza" all the freaking time! So, I let him out, shut the sliding glass door, and watch him from inside. Ahhh!!!

Samuel will be 4 months tomorrow, so I'll save his 4 month update until then. So, stay tuned...

We're Alive!!

Cutest boys! 8/22

Well, we've ALMOST got everything moved in. Moving is much longer and harder with two babies, but we really only have to get rid of some stuff and put a box of baby clothes away and we will be officially moved in. Our new apartment is SO much bigger and nicer. Pretty much every room is double the size. I'll have to take some pictures and post them asap.

Sammy 8/21

We had our first visit from the fire department yesterday. We came home to a smoky house and could not find the source. We thought it could have been our upstairs neighbors, so Eric went and got the resident manager, who called the fire department. A few minutes later here come 2 fire engines and a fire truck with their lights and sirens on (great response time!). They had their full on fire gear on when they discovered that a sippy cup lid had fallen into the heating source of the dishwasher and burned. It smelled nasty, but thankfully was not a big deal. One of the fireman said, "You'll have to write this in the baby book." So, I said "Yeah, and can we get a picture?" So, now we'll always have evidence the fire department did come! :)

Judah has his first fireman visit 8/21

Judah and Samuel are both getting so big! Judah is now 22 months. I can't believe he'll be 2 in 2 months. The past two years have flown by. He is talking up a storm. Today he went up to his keyboard where a part has fallen off and said "Papa, fix. Mama, fix." I have no idea where he learned the word "fix." He's also putting words together and saying short sentences. One of my favorite thing he says is, "Mama, pease..." (please).

Samuel will be 4 months on the 30th and has his 4 month well baby visit on the 31st. We are so anxious to see how big he is. He's such a healthy, happy, easygoing little guy. A few weeks ago he rolled over from his stomach to his back and a few days after that from his back to his stomach. Yay! He's strong, too!

Seriously, Get over it!

Ok, maybe I'm secretly a hippy. After having a baby this new side of me came out that I never knew existed. After reading a book about how Amish women have their babies I decided to go to a midwife to have mine delivered. I also decided I wanted my birth to be drug-free. At the birthing classes through my midwives Eric and I learned about waterbirths. Judah was delivered underwater and drug-free. Although I planned to have a waterbirth with Samuel we didn't make it in time, but his birth was also drug-free. For my next baby I really hope we own a house because (I know it sounds crazy), but I would LOVE to have a homebirth. I wouldn't have to worry about making it to the hospital, having nurses wake me up all night, and I would be in my own home.

Before Judah was born I also knew I would breastfeed and I wanted to do it for at least a year. I wanted to breastfeed because I had read about how healthy it is: all the vitamins, immunities, decreases ear infections, increases iq, and helps mom lose weight. A couple of my friends were unable to breastfeed, so I wasn't one of the "you MUST breastfeed" nazi types. But, I knew that breastfeeding was definitely for me!

After Judah was born and I actually started breastfeeding I would have near-panic attacks when I had to breastfeed in public. When Judah was 3 weeks old we took him to the night service at church for the first time. He woke up and was hungry, but I was hoping he could wait until the service was over to eat. He started crying, so I got out my blanket and ATTEMPTED to feed him while he continued to cry. My pastor heard Judah (as everyone in the sanctuary did) and said "Judah is going to be a preacher" and, of course, the whole church turned around to look at us. I freaked out and told Eric I was never going to church again. Well, that obviously didn't happen, but I did continue to FREAK OUT everytime I had to feed Judah in public. It was bad, I am not exaggerating!

I knew that my anxiety was not good for Judah or for me. I feel bad now about making him cry, go hungry, or just knowing how anxious I was. So, before having Samuel I came up with a plan. I would use a nursing cover (made by my incredibly talented friend Jenna). This nursing cover is kind of like an apron. It has a tie that goes around your neck, so it can't fall down and the baby can't pull it down. And, my favorite part is that it has boning, so you can see your baby and make sure they are positioned correctly. Then, I decided I would nurse my baby whenever he was hungry and if this "bothered" someone they could just get over it. Obviously, you can't see anything and my baby is hungry for crying outloud! I just remember that I need to be more concerned with my baby than everyone else.

So, when I read this article is REALLY bothered me! How can someone be offended by a picture of a breastfeeding baby on BABYTALK magazine!?!? I'm surprised how many times we've had to turn the tv off because of sexual content (we don't even have cable!). And, people are offended at this? Ridiculous, truly ridiculous.

A New Look

Thank you so much to girl from Florida for helping me beautify my blog. Doesn't it look so pretty? Yay!

Tomorrow is Judah's last swim lessons. He went on Tuesday and he actually loved it. The only time he said "no" was when we told him it was time for, "Tight lips! Ready, ready under." After the back floating he actually said, "More!" It was great to see him enjoy it. Usually the time drags on, but on Tuesday I was surprised it was over so quickly.

Judah has a cold today. Ugh! Seriously, it is the worst thing EVER when your babies are sick! He had a fever when he woke up from his nap, so I gave him some Motrin. Thankfully he's not acting sick, but he is watching a Baby Einstein video right now. And telling Samuel, "My tt!" (tt is tv) Hopefully he feels better tomorrow because it is his last swim lessons. I'm sure he will. Pray for a speedy recovery for Judah and protection for Samuel! Judah is old enough now to blow his nose and tell us when he doesn't feel good, but Samuel is still such a little guy. Judah didn't get sick until he was 8 months old, but Samuel has ALREADY had a cold. I feel so bad seeing this tiny little baby sick. But, I guess that's what happens when they have an older sibling. When Judah was a baby we were able to protect him from everything (and trust me we did!), but it's not so easy with Samuel. I'm trying to tell Judah he can't touch brother when he's sick, but I don't think he quite understands. He loves his brother!
