Eric decided when Judah was about 2 weeks old that he didn't want to be called "Daddy." Instead he would be called "Big Papa." This name started as a joke several years before. I called him Big Papa and would sing the song that goes "I love it when you call me Big Papa..." Most of you have probably not heard of it, it's some random rap song.
Anyway, after Judah was born this name came back to Eric's mind and he decided that he didn't want the same name as the billion other dads in the US. At first this bugged me, I guess because I just care too much about what people think. I've always admired the fact that Eric does what he wants to do, not based on what other people think of him. He is secure in who he is and really does look to the approval of God and not man. That is something I'm striving for.
Eric and I can be in a certain situation. Somebody will make a comment and I come home crushed. When I mention it to Eric he has no idea what I'm talking about. Or, if he does, he's just lets it slide off. Wow!
Back to the topic of Big Papa. I've decided to shorten it to "Papa", so it sounds more Little House on the Prarie, rather than gangsta rap.
I really do think Judah calling his dad Papa is cute. I used to babysit a little girl named Hannah who would call her dad Papa. When he would tell her to do something she would say, "Yes sir, Papa." Too cute!!
So, my confident husband can be called whatever he wants. He knows who he is and I'm so proud of that!!!
